Self-Reflection as Self-Care

ree

This is probably one of the most vulnerable posts I have ever written. As much as I talk about self-care, I am not immune to neglecting it. For the last six weeks it feels like my body has been chasing my brain (and my luggage) around the world. My mind has been going a mile a minute, and there have been days my body was not convinced it should move out of bed. If only life would allow me the opportunity to sleep until I was no longer tired, but that is just not how any of this works.

I have lost count of the number of cities I have visited lately. The life I have been living personifies over-extension. I have been feeling all the emotions. I am encouraged about my pursuits but exhausted. I am finally operating in my gifting, but the constant grind leaves me feeling disjointed and splitting my energy in a hundred directions simultaneously. I have been on the brink of tears from exhaustion but have not had the time or energy to breakdown. My body was saying enough is enough.

I decided to take a few days to pour into myself. Honestly, my self-care time has not been work-free, but I have been able to focus on me. I got a massage and a facial (I was long overdue). I even took some time to catch up on my shows on the DVR. My time has been fruitful and geared towards prioritizing me.

So here I am reminding you to check-in with yourself. Have you assessed your mental, physical, or emotional health lately? Are you tuned in to all your needs? Is your calendar so full of things to do and places to be that you have neglected your self-care time? I did! It is easy to get distracted by life, but I am here to remind you (and ME) not to forget about YOU! Even if it means adding your self-care time to your calendar or set a reminder on your phone. It is THAT important. Your mask first.

Here's to your health!
