Love comes in many forms. It can be platonic or romantic. It is often freely given to those we share a deep connection. The love between people hinges on commonality. Agape love, which is the love Jesus has for the church, is said to be the highest form. It is unselfish and rooted in sacrifice. As individuals, we express and receive love in numerous ways. You may be familiar with the concept of love languages as detailed by Dr. Gary Chapman in his book “The Five Love Languages.” Aside from the various types of love and ways to express it, did you know that the expression of love is a form of self-care? Yes! When we love others, and they do so in return, both parties benefit!
The feeling of being loved (in any form) is linked to lower stress levels, lower blood pressure, improved mood, better heart health, improved self-esteem and feelings of self-worth, and so much more! The expression of love makes us feel better whether we are the giver or the receiver. What are you waiting for? Love on someone today! Even if that someone is YOU!
Here’s to your health!
