Using Your Voice as Self-Care

Updated: Feb 7, 2023

Our voice reflects our value system, and it is based on our experiences. Your voice is the outward expression of the things that make you uniquely YOU! Finding and using our voice is a process. The evolution of “self” requires time and a willingness to learn. The discovery process might be painstaking at times but is well worth the effort.

Through growth, you learn to discern your voice and figure out what is authentically you. Fine-tuning your inner voice will also require “quieting” external noise. We live in a society where everyone has an opinion about what others should be and how they should govern themselves. Social media influences every aspect of our lives. It determines what we wear, how we speak, and how we spend our time.

If you are wondering how to start the process to find your voice here are a few tips:

  1. Reflect on the things you are passionate about

  2. Write down the things that matter to you

  3. Think about the things you are afraid of

  4. Determine and affirm your boundaries and absolutes

  5. Gain clarity about the things you value and refuse to compromise

  6. Be comfortable with others being uncomfortable with your choices

Finding your voice is one thing, but exerting it is another. Using your voice requires self-confidence acquired through life experience, trial, and error. Speaking your mind and affirming your choices is a skill set that develops over time. As we mature, we shift towards defining our truth based on our experience instead of what someone taught us. With practice, it becomes easier to affirm your voice.

Each of us has an ordained purpose for our lives. We are all blessed with a voice crafted by our journey. May you be empowered to use yours!

Here’s to your health!
